Robbed Ford

The law is the law. That's for sure.

But what's also for sure is that a group of people who don't like Ford politically got together and said, "We're going to get this guy, and we're going to get him at the first possible opportunity." They could have said, "Yeah, the guy screwed up, so we'll let the voters punish him." But they weren't going to take any chances with the electorate. No, those people had proved they couldn't be trusted.

It couldn't be like it was in Ottawa a few years ago where they took Larry O'Brien down in an election and installed Jim Watson. Ford's mayoralty had to be erased, aborted from history. It was a mistake, and the voters weren't going to be given an opportunity to correct that mistake.

The difference between this campaign to erase Ford and the ongoing campaign to get Harper out of office by any means necessary is that Harper and his people know and understand that the left are shooting to kill, and they shoot back. The rest of us are stuck thinking that all we have to do is win the election. We think that a contempt motion, or a petition, or Sun News, or a private member's bill is going to do the trick. We waste time trying to explain conservative principles to each other and to an electorate that has been programmed not to listen.

We are not winning, and we can't rely on the people to help us win, and when the people do finally say, "Enough!", then they take it out of the people's hands.

For years- years, now- I've watched the Canadian electorate get oh-so-close to that point where they just lose it and turn against their government. And every time, they dip a toe in the water, and then pull it back. And for years now, I've watched the conservative movement in this country fail to grasp this elementary point; that if we aren't prepared to go to the lengths that the left will to win every single day, then we're not going to win. We're waiting for them to give us power.

But as we saw yesterday with Ford, power is not given.

It is taken.

  1. Don't agree about O'Brien. They tied him up in court for ages and thus negated his election indirectly. Then when he ran again, he ran out of gas.

I agree however about your analysis. We just saw how Romney should have won the election, but didn't realize what he was up against.

    1. Right. So are we finally going to stop expecting them to play nice now? Is this finally going to drive the point home?

    1. First sentence of the post: The law is the law. That means I don't question the court's decision. Are you too busy high fiving your friends to read?

  3. Ford was in conflict of interest and an independent judge turfed him. If Ford was honourable he would not be in this position. He was declared corrupt by the judge.

Good try blaming this on lefties.

    1. Like the person above, your obvious joy at this precedent having been set is getting in the way of your ability to understand the written word. The problem, as I wrote, is that the right, by and large, doesn't want to make use of the tools available to them to set the agenda.

I'm sure that when the SCC upheld the result federally in Etobicoke Centre, you respected that decision too. Right? Not a peep out of you about partisan judges that day, I'm sure.

You and your fellow travellers are terrified of the right getting properly organized.

  4. This has been a witch hunt from the start. The left can't accept election results so rather than using the democratic process and wait for an election, they try to subvert democracy.

    1. The left used the law to achieve a result that they desired. It's legal. But it betrays their fundamental contempt for the *people* who elected Ford.

Why don't we use the law and other mechanisms available to us this way? Are we winning points with people for not taking advantage? Because I don't see it.

  6. In one way I am delighted at the judges's actions in this case.

Judges are favoured allies of the left. It doesn't matter who appoints them. These left leaning, public trough slopping low life opportunists would lick the devil's ass if they thought they would get appointed to the bench, so the political affiliation of the appointer doesn't matter here.

WHAT DOES MATTER is how this can be played. Let's seeeeee, hmmmm. Overbearing, wealthy judges once again trample upon the will of the people to remove a duly elected official for their friends in the left elite and the press.

    Yep, THAT will work.

It doesn't matter if the accused is guilty or innocent. It doesn't matter whether the judge was free to act or had his/her hands tied. WHO CARES?

Every tiniest opportunity should be siezed to portray the judiciary in an image of over paid, blustering, left wing, elitist tyrants.

    This will be fun.

Well, I hope you enjoy your comfortable position sitting on your fat asses in your luxurious ivory towers you pompous black robed petty dictators. Your comfortable postions are about to get less comfortable.
